What Is Chipotle?

Chipotle is a casual dining restaurant chain based in the US. They’ve been around for almost 30 years, and while their headquarters are based in the US, they have chains all around the world; including the UK, Germany, Canada, and France. In fact, they have almost 3,000 locations across the globe.

They are best known for specializing in Mexican cuisine, where they serve dishes such as chips and dip, tacos, burritos and quesadillas.

Does Chipotle have dessert?

Currently, Chipotle does not offer any dessert options. I find this very odd, considering they offer appetizers and main. What better way to end a meal than with a sweet treat? However, if you’re looking for a Mexican-inspired dessert to end your meal, you will not find any at Chipotle. While attempts have been made to introduce desserts to their menu, the attempts have never been successful, and the items have been swiftly removed.

Has Chipotle ever had Dessert?

When Chipotle opened, they did not offer desserts, and that has been the case since. However, in recent years, they’ve tried to launch a few desserts, but none of their dessert launches have been well received. In 2017, they launched their bunuelos with chocolate dipping sauce. And also trialed a chocolate shake in their New York chain. However, neither of the desserts were kept on their menu. There is currently talk of churros making an appearance on their menu – we can keep our fingers crossed!

What does Chipotle serve?

So if Chipotle doesn’t serve desserts, what do they serve? Let’s take a closer look. Some of their most popular menu items include:

  • tortilla chips and dip
  • burrito
  • burrito bowl
  • lifestyle bowl
  • quesadillas
  • salad
  • tacos

Bunuelos With Chocolate Sauce Recipe

While bunuelos may not have been on the Chipotle menu for long, you may be missing these tasty treats. Well, we have some good news! They’re super easy to make, and nothing beats these crispy, fried balls of goodness. This recipe is inspired by one from Spoon Fork Bacon. Let’s take a look at how to make these at home.

Ingredients

The ingredients you’ll need for this recipe are:

For the bunuelos:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour (plus an extra two tablespoons)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground anise seed
  • 2/3 cup of whole milk
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of oil (preferably vegetable)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

For the cinnamon sugar:

  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

For the chocolate sauce:

  • 8oz of chopped semi-sweet chocolate (or bittersweet, if you’d prefer)
  • 1 cup of heavy cream (room temp)
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • vegetable oil (to fry)

Recipe

Now all you need to do is:

Step 1: Prepare

Gather all of the ingredients you need for your bunuelos and preheat the oil for frying to 350F.

Step 2: Make the Batter

Place the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and ground anise seed to a bowl. Mix all of the dry ingredients together and leave to one side. In another bowl, add the wet ingredients (vanilla extract, vegetable oil, milk, and eggs) and whisk them until combined. Now add the wet ingredients gradually to the dry ingredients, whisking as you do. Keep whisking until well combined, and the batter is smooth.

Step 3: Fry the bunuelos

Now it’s time to fry the batter. You’ll need around 1-2 tablespoons of the batter in balls, and drop them into the oil. Don’t overcrowd the fryer. Fry on both sides, for around 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon once fried and place on a paper towel to drain. Once drained, roll in your cinnamon sugar mixture. Repeat this process until you have no more batter.

Step 4: Make the sauce

Add the chopped chocolate, heavy cream, unsalted butter, chili powder, and cinnamon to a saucepan. Warm over a low heat. Keep stirring until the ingredients have all melted, and you’re left with a smooth sauce. Remove from heat and pour into a bowl. Dip your bunuelos into the sauce – enjoy!
