Method

For the crust

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Put the ladyfingers in a food processor and crush them until they look like coarse crumbs. Place them into a medium bowl and stir in the sugar, instant espresso powder, and melted butter.

  4. Press the crumbs firmly and evenly into the base and on the sides of the pan.
  5. Bake for about 10 minutes and then remove from oven allowing them to cool while making ganache filling.

For the ganache

  1. Put the chopped chocolate, vanilla, cream, and Marsala into a large microwave-safe bowl, stir and microwave the mixture for 20 seconds at a time stirring each time until smooth.
  2. Pour the mixture over the prepared tart and chill it for 1-2 hours or until the filling firms up enough to slice.

For the mascarpone topping

  1. Place mascarpone in a large bowl and beat with a mixer for just a few seconds to soften. Then mix in the sugar, espresso powder and drizzle in the cream in a slow stream and vanilla while mixing.
  2. Continue mixing at medium speed just until firm peaks form and can hold their shape. Do not over mix so that it doesn’t get grainy.
  3. Pipe the mascarpone topping over ganache with a pastry bag or just spoon it over and smooth it over in one even layer.
  4. Finally, give it a light dusting of cocoa powder.
  5. Slice and enjoy.

Final Thoughts

You can make these as individual tartlets or a large tray of tartlets for parties. For a special touch, we suggest using mini cupcake wrappers for the tartlets so that they look like mini cupcakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What flavors are in tiramisu?

Tiramisu has three major components: mascarpone, coffee, and chocolate. The mascarpone is light, buttery, and sweet; the coffee is strong and bitter; and the chocolate is dark, smooth, and bittersweet.  The flavors can be either chocolate or coffee.

How do you make a tartlet shell?

A tartlet shell is made by pressing a pastry bag or a small spoon into the bottom of a cup to create a well in the center. Then, fill the well with fruit, custard, or any other filling of your choice.

What goes well with tiramisu?

There are no hard and fast rules for what should go with tiramisu. A simple plate of fresh fruit would be perfect. But if you're feeling fancy, you could serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a cup of coffee.

How to make tiramisu tart?

You can use the same method for making a tiramisu tart as you would for making a regular tiramisu pie.  You will also need to make the tiramisu filling in a separate bowl. Just pour the mascarpone cheese and rum mixture into the bowl and refrigerate it until you're ready to use it. Make sure that you do not add the rum to the mascarpone cheese before you start mixing them together. Once you've added the rum, you can't add any more ingredients to the mix. You want the rum to be absorbed into the mascarpone.
