Step 1

Cut the lemons and oranges into quarters and squeeze them to release the juice into the pot.  Add the unpeeled squeezed fruit into the pot too. Add orange, apple juice or ginger ale, or water to the pot.  Add all the other ingredients but leave the whiskey.

Step 2

Bring this mixture to a boil and reduce the heat allowing it to slowly simmer as you stir frequently for about 25 minutes.

When the fruits become soft and mushy from cooking, strain your liquid through a fine mesh and remove the solid pieces and discard them.  You may also use cheesecloth if you don’t have a mesh cloth.
