This dessert is usually paired with ice cream or whipped cream.

Recipe

Now all you need to do is:

Step 1: Make the dough

Gather all of the ingredients you need and preheat your oven to 180 degrees. Grab a bowl and add your salt and baking powder. Now sieve your flour into the mixing bowl and stir the ingredients lightly. Cut your butter into smaller pieces and add to the mix, along with the egg, egg yolk, caster sugar, and natural yogurt. With your hands, start to mix the ingredients together. You may need to add more flour, or more yogurt, depending on how wet or dry the mixture us. Keep mixing until you’re able to form a ball of dough. Place dough into the fridge while you prepare the filling.

Step 2: Make the filling

Prepare your apples by removing the skin and cubing them into small pieces. Heat 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan over a medium heat, alongside the sugar and around half of the cinnamon. Once boiling, reduce the heat and add the apples, alongside the remaining half of the cinnamon. You may need to remove excess water. Leave to soften for around 10 minutes, and then set aside.

Step 3: Prepare the pie

Flour a workspace and remove your dough from the refrigerator. Keep 1/4 of the dough to one side and roll out the rest and place at the bottom of your pan (be sure to poke a few small holes at the bottom). Add the pie filling evenly over the bottom crust. With your remaining dough, cut 1″ rectangles to the size of your pan. You’ll need around 8 strips. Lay half of them horizontally and half of them vertically.

Step 4: Bake

Remove any excess from the edges of your pie and add the teaspoon of sugar to the top of your pie. If you’d like to egg wash the pie to make it extra crispy, you can do so. Place in the center of your preheated oven for 40 minutes. Enjoy!
